When discussing the delimitation or demarcation of outer space it won’t be long before the Karman Line is brought up. The Karman Line, positioned 100 kilometers above Earth’s surface, is a conceptual demarcation between our atmosphere and outer space. Coined after physicist Theodore von Kármán, it is globally recognized as a symbolic threshold for entering space. While not a legally binding boundary, it serves as a practical reference point influencing discussions around space exploration, ethics, and economic activities in the absence of a rigid legal framework. The delimitation of space provides a tangible boundary crucial for defining Earth’s jurisdiction and space exploration regulations. Nations, space agencies, and private entities require clear guidelines to prevent conflicts and foster cooperation.
